Find peace and relaxation with spa massage

Professional Spa:

Getting the Lowdown:

How to decide which resort is best?
There are somewhere around 12000+ spas in the US alone and ca 2000+ in Canada (at the time of writing :)) and growing. Even so, the decision doesn´t have to be as tricky as you first make it out to be.

First of all you need to sit down somwhere to decide what it is that you want, or need, for that matter. Do you want a massage rubdown, facial, full body pampering or just a quiet harmonious place you can rest and forget that word stress for a few microds (sci-fi term, hehe sorry people).

There are resorts that focus/specialize on stress-relief and help you with designing a stress management plan along with doing the excersises and just to think right when going about your daily life. Programs can include meditation, yoga, breathing techniques, raising your mental health, diverting thoughts from bad things and focus on to the more important things in life...like living and other easily overlooked details.

Of course there are resorts that just offer the spa experience. Gradually these traditional pampering resorts are fading away to be replaced by another model. Namely, the hybrid model that has the best of both worlds, like the stress management spas, weight-loss resorts, nature, sport spas, and so forth.

Pick and choose what excites you the most and works best for you, then try it out. If you´re looking for something speciffic be picky, otherwise just relax and sift through the options available. Here is a perfect tool for you to begin finding your spa with.

Quality of service:

It´s important to test the spa for quality before you commit your time not to mention your resources to it.

Find out how to tell if your resort has the quality of service expected.

Massages:

[Note]: If you have a medical problem or if this is your first massage, always consult your physician before booking a massage appointment. [/Note]

What to expect:

There are a few things that is good to know before walking in to the massage room and meeting with the masseur/masseuse. They will ask you how you spend your time (what you do in your daily life), how you eat, if you exercise and if you do it regularly. They will also go through your medical checklist of prior medical history and ask you about symptoms you might have or something you might be allergic to. So a full consultation is standard.

The behaviour of the masseur/masseuse:

For those of you that have never even been inside a massage room might have some questions and wonder what is and is not acceptable behaviour from either you or the person massaging you.

Read the rest of the article and find out all about normal, proper and acceptable behaviour.

After the massage:

There are a few factors contributing to your "rest time". One being your body mass, another your pulse and bloodcirculation. So don´t get up to fast, it can cause dizziness.

A general rule is resting for 30 or so seconds and drinking plenty of fluids (by fluids I mean water) afterwards to rid yourself of body toxins. Do not excersize or involve yourself in any excessive activities. Let at least a couple of hours pass after a massage before you do that. I can not stress this enough, this is a very important rule to follow.

A more in depth rule is not to drink alcohol, coffee, tea or any other kind of drinks, energy or otherwise, that fall into the category of "refreshing", "reviving", "bracing" and/or "stimulating" for AT LEAST 12h post massage.

Some of the benefits and the thing all massages have together is their fabulous ability to reduce stress, ridding the body of dangerous toxins and relaxing your muscles, mind and body, creating a completely new you, well... almost. Here are some of the most popular forms of massage:

Swedish: This type of massage is also known as "massage therapy". What defines a swedish massage are the long smooth strokes made to the body aswell as keeping the pressure on the muscles down and not pressing to hard.

The key is to keep using lotion or massage oils to keep some of the friction down, but not all though. Some friction must absolutely be there. Because the main goal is to warm the muscles to better work on them.

What Swedish massage helps prevent is tention and aches aswell as reduces recovery time after an accident if you do this regularly. Increases the bodys blood circulation and mobility. It also helps reduce stress for a more balanced life aswell as many other qualities and healing properties.

Home Spa:

If for some reason you feel like making it personal and private, or you found no spa to have what you were looking for, getting over the "amateur" touch requires quite a lot of work.

Essential home spa starter kit:

2 ways of aquiring the goods:

1) Buy all that´s on your list at your local shop.

2) Or, just scavenge the house and your supply of secretly and strategically stashed spa essentials you saved for a rainy day. You don´t even have to leave the house for this one.

What you absolutely need to create your own home spa is:

Mood (sound):

Find some calm relaxing music, like for instance; Chineese/oriental instrumental music, or ocean/forrest/tropical/bird/cave sounds (you know, dripping water echoing in an enclosed space and so on).

I find it easier to get a portable CD player on batteries or a USB stick that plays music, rather than a outlet dependable device. It´s both smarter and safer to use the mobile one.

Mood(smell):

Scented candles, potpurri, scented oils, creams and bath gels.

How to make potpurri by yourself:

Mood (look):

Set the right tone of contrast and lighting. If a candle is to low in brightness, try lighting up more or get a lamp to cover the loss of light and brightness.

Mood (feel):

Loofah, washing glove, bath brush for your back, soft and fluffy bath towel.

Body:

Now we´ll start with the specific products you are going to need for your body.

1) Cleaners

2) Toners

3) Moisturizers

Mind:

Slow your breathing and breathe in deeply and calmly. Try to clear your mind of bad thoughts and concentrate on smell, sound touch, feel, etc. Try to take in as much information as possible. Visualize yourself on a beach (or wherever you´d like) having a good relaxing time.

Builing your own spa:

Ever dream of having your girlfriends over for a real home-spa session?

Creating and building your own spa is satisfying, not only for the exercise. But for the good it does the body when you use it. What´s great about having a home spa is it´s ability to reduce all sorts of body problems and counter the effects of reumatism, improve blood circulation and be a positive stress reliever.

[Note]:

If you feel like you are going to fall asleep, get out of the bath immediately. Don´t drink any alcohol before going into the hot tub/bath tub since the alcohol level in your blood multiplies when your body is exposed to water.
